01 Aug Divine Daze Season 19 Episode 8
Ah August… What a beautiful time of the year. 2017 Race season is just around the corner I hope you have all been thinking about booking your appointments if you are attending Cairns Cup or any of the Amateurs events this year. I must inform you all that I won’t be here for Cairns cup, as I will be in South Africa!!! I’m attending the Annual Wella Red Forum that this year is being held in Sun City Just outside of Johannesburg. Each year we are invited to attend the Forum that takes place in various cities around the globe. At these forums we attend business seminars that provide insight into the future of hairdressing and inspiration for our craft of which we pass onto the rest of the Divine Team. I will be away from Thursday 10th August and returning Saturday 19th August. So if you need me before then make sure you book in, otherwise you’ll have to wait until I get back. The girls will be holding the fort as usual and don’t forget you can always book online at our website.
Something that is nearly as exciting as going to South Africa is My Favourite restaurant has opened up just down the road!!! Pho Viet Edge Hill has opened up across the road from Edge Hill School next to Samagasat. They have the best pork buns, beef pho soup, rice paper rolls, crispy chicken…. Everything is just yum!! Go and check it out and support these guys so they hang around.
Instagram vs reality
Social media has taken the art of hairdressing to a whole new level. The images arising are amazing, showing what talent hairdressers all over the world have. Some are incredible and some are very tragic… I guess it just depends on what you like. The issue us hairdressers are facing is how much you can touch up an image to make your picture look perfect. There are so many various apps you can download for free to alter images, you can whiten your teeth, make your skin look more tanned, change the colour of your hair, make yourself taller or skinnier, it’s quite amazing what you can do with free applications these days. Here I have an image of a colour we did for our beautiful client Zara. The first image is the original untouched, raw, exactly how you would see it in real life. The second image has been retouched with a filter just from Instagram…. Not even with any of the other apps you can purchase. The point I’m getting at here is we have so many people wishing to achieve this ash clean blonde or the ash brown with no warmth or one we have been getting a lot is the gun metal grey (I know some of you are thinking why the hell would you want that). It all looks so cool on the Instagram pictures, but I can guarantee you that 9/10 of those images have been retouched to make them look more appealing. There is only so much us hairdressers can do to push your hair to a level that your hair can cope with without it breaking off. At Divine our main concern is the health of your hair, we want your hair to look beautiful all the time and we want you to get the most out of your cuts and colours so they grow out well. This is why we take that bit of extra time when you come in for your service and why we are not as cheap as some other salons. Our stylists have attended countless courses and seminars held by the best hairdressers in the country with Wella and Kevin Murphy. We live and breathe hair and have made it our lifetime goal to know everything we can to provide you with your best hairstyle. We are passionate about what we do and give 100% to every client that sits in our chair. While we will always strive to achieve what you want sometimes it simply can’t be done without getting a chemical haircut, or leaving with your hair feeling dry, dull and lifeless.
Rebooking
I really want to start getting everyone into the habit of rebooking. As our lives get busier time goes faster and before we know it 2,3,4,5 months have passed in the blink of an eye and you’re wondering why your hair doesn’t look good anymore… however when you have an appointment locked in place you get a friendly text message reminder the day before. Then if you really can’t make it all it takes is a simple phone to reschedule to a day that’s more convenient. This way you can be sure to keep on top of your colours and cuts and your hair looking amazing all the time. If you’re unsure of how regularly to come its generally 4-8 weeks for a regrowth colour, 8 – 12 weeks for semi permanents, 12+ weeks for foiling and haircuts.
More training…
Favourite TV Shows for this season… without a doubt so happy that Game Of Thrones is back on.. can’t wait to see what this season holds… and the new Series on Foxtel ‘Taboo’ starring Tom Hardy set in the 1800’s with an adventurer retuning to London from Africa to inherit his late father’s Shipping Empire and avenge his death.
Anyway, that’s enough from me, I hope to see most of you before I go to South Africa next Thursday, otherwise I will see you after the 22nd August full of new exciting tales to tell.
